“Randy’s Whale-watching Shack” 14″X11″ plein air oil on linen board, catalog #940, was painted on location on Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey. Met up with Randall Stauss (rstauss.com) and Murray Wagnon (murraywagnon.com) in the downtown plaza area. We poked about, looking for locations, and finally settled on the secondary arm of Fisherman’s Wharf. It was late in the day and got chilly toward the end.
This piece inspires me to go back and paint a larger version. I had to leave out too many details. I’m discovering the wisdom of doing a “study” like this and following up with a larger, more finished plein air piece later. If I do go back and do a larger piece, I will add people in since the place is usually crowded.
